Button fern

This is my very prolific button fern. It's been a peaceful presence on my coffee table for a long time now. At first glance, it really does not look like a fern at all! But indeed it is!

It's official botanical name is Pellaea rotundifolia. How much fun the Latin names can be! It's fronds appear as streamers of small round or rotund deeply peaceful green leaves.

This native of New Zealand is usually sold in small pots but its fronds can grow to almost 12 inches long. It prefers cooler temperatures.

Care Instructions--
  • Bright indirect light or some morning sun.
  • Water it as soon as the top of the soil feels dry. Give it a thorough soak when it's ready. Make sure excess water does not sit in the bottom of its saucer for long.
  • Mist daily or provide humidity in some way.
  • Fertilize regularly.
